The memorial lecture, held at the University of Ghana, Legon, brought together dignitaries, politicians, academics, and members of the public to celebrate the life and legacy of the late president. Atta Mills, who served as Ghana’s president from 2009 until his untimely death in 2012, is remembered for his calm demeanor, humility, and commitment to peace.

The former Chief Justice also spoke about Mills’ vision for Ghana, which centered on social equity, economic growth, and national reconciliation. “His policies aimed at bridging the gap between the rich and the poor, fostering economic opportunities for all, and promoting national harmony,” she remarked. “His legacy continues to inspire us to strive for a more just and equitable society.”

Several other speakers at the event echoed Akuffo’s sentiments, praising Atta Mills for his integrity, empathy, and commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians. Former colleagues and friends shared personal anecdotes, highlighting his humility and dedication to public service.

“President Mills was not just a leader; he was a mentor and a friend to many of us,” said Dr. Kwesi Botchwey, former Minister of Finance. “His leadership style was characterized by consultation, respect, and a genuine desire to see Ghana thrive.”

The memorial lecture concluded with a call to current and future leaders to emulate Atta Mills’ example of selfless service and dedication to the nation. “As we remember President Mills today, let us commit ourselves to the principles he stood for: justice, fairness, and unity,” Akuffo urged. “Let his memory guide us as we work towards a better Ghana for all.”
