Majority Leader Afenyo-Markins Dares John Mahama: “Come Shoulder to Shoulder and Debate Bawumia if He Has Failed”

In a bold political challenge, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markins has dared former President John Dramani Mahama to engage in a public debate with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The challenge comes amidst ongoing political tension and criticism of the current administration’s performance.

Speaking at a press conference today, Afenyo-Markin asserted that if Mahama believes Vice President Bawumia has failed in his duties, he should come forward and debate the issues directly. “If John Mahama thinks Dr. Bawumia has not delivered on his promises, let him come shoulder to shoulder and debate him publicly,” Afenyo-Markin stated. “This will provide a platform for Ghanaians to see who truly has the vision and capability to lead this nation.”

Afenyo-Markin’s challenge follows recent criticisms from Mahama, who has been vocal about his disapproval of the government’s economic policies and handling of national issues. Mahama, who is the leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has frequently targeted Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) economic strategist, accusing him of failing to manage the country’s economy effectively.

The Majority Leader emphasized that a debate would be an opportunity for both leaders to present their records and future plans to the electorate. “Ghanaians deserve to hear directly from those who aspire to lead them. A debate will allow us to compare records, scrutinize policies, and understand who has the better plan for our country’s future,” Afenyo-Markin said.

The NDC has yet to respond to the challenge, but political analysts suggest that such a debate could significantly influence public opinion ahead of the upcoming elections. “A public debate between Mahama and Bawumia could be a game-changer,” said political analyst Dr. Franklin Adubia. “It would offer a clear comparison of their leadership styles and visions for Ghana.”

Supporters of both parties have taken to social media to express their views, with many calling for the debate to be arranged. “We need this debate. It’s time to see who really has the answers to our problems,” tweeted an NPP supporter. Meanwhile, an NDC supporter wrote, “Mahama should accept the challenge and show Bawumia what true leadership looks like.”

As the political atmosphere heats up, all eyes will be on whether Mahama will accept the dare and engage in a face-to-face debate with Bawumia. Such an event promises to be a significant moment in Ghana’s democratic process, providing voters with a clearer understanding of their choices in the next election.
