Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communication for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has defended Rock City and Bryan Acheampong amid scrutiny over their bid to acquire a majority stake in a prominent hotel chain. Ahiagbah asserted that both the company and Acheampong have acted within legal and ethical boundaries, dismissing allegations of impropriety.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Ahiagbah addressed concerns raised by some opposition members and civil society groups regarding the acquisition process. Critics have questioned the transparency and fairness of the bid, suggesting potential conflicts of interest given Acheampong’s political position.
“Rock City and Bryan Acheampong have done nothing wrong in their pursuit to acquire a majority stake in the hotels,” Ahiagbah stated firmly. “Their actions have been guided by the rules and regulations governing such transactions, and there is no evidence to suggest any wrongdoing.”
Ahiagbah emphasized that Rock City, a reputable company with a solid track record in the hospitality industry, has met all necessary requirements and adhered to due diligence procedures. He also highlighted Acheampong’s commitment to promoting economic growth and development through legitimate business ventures.
“The acquisition process has been transparent, and all stakeholders have been duly informed and involved,” Ahiagbah continued. “Bryan Acheampong, as a private citizen and businessman, has every right to participate in business activities. His involvement should not be misconstrued as unethical simply because of his political affiliation.”
The NPP’s communication director urged the public and media to focus on the potential benefits of the acquisition, noting that the investment could lead to significant improvements in the hotel chain’s operations, service quality, and overall contribution to the tourism sector.
“The expansion and enhancement of these hotels will create jobs, boost tourism, and contribute to the local economy,” Ahiagbah added. “We should be encouraging such investments rather than casting unwarranted aspersions.”
In response to Ahiagbah’s remarks, representatives from Rock City reiterated their commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity and transparency throughout the acquisition process. They expressed confidence in their ability to manage and elevate the hotel chain, ensuring it remains a key player in Ghana’s hospitality industry.
Despite Ahiagbah’s reassurances, some opposition figures remain skeptical and have called for further investigation into the bid. They argue that the public deserves full disclosure and clarity on all aspects of the transaction to ensure that national interests are protected.
