We are doing better than the economy that he former president John Dramani Mahama was managing as President Vice President Dr. Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has confidently stated that the current administration is handling the economy more effectively than the previous government under former President John Dramani Mahama. Speaking at a recent economic forum, Dr. Bawumia highlighted several key areas where he believes the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has outperformed the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.

“We are doing better than the economy that former President John Dramani Mahama was managing,” Dr. Bawumia declared. He pointed to improvements in GDP growth, inflation rates, and foreign direct investment as indicators of the current government’s superior economic management.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that under the NPP’s stewardship, Ghana has seen a resurgence in economic stability and growth. He cited data showing a decline in inflation from double digits under Mahama to single digits currently, as well as a significant increase in foreign investments and job creation initiatives that have boosted the economy. “Our policies have created a more favorable business environment, leading to increased investor confidence and economic activities,” he added.

Moreover, Dr. Bawumia noted advancements in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, asserting that the NPP’s strategic investments in these sectors are yielding tangible benefits for Ghanaians. He also mentioned that the government’s efforts to digitize the economy, including initiatives like the National Identification System and mobile money interoperability, have improved efficiency and reduced corruption.

In response, members of the NDC have criticized Dr. Bawumia’s statements, arguing that the current administration’s economic achievements are overstated. “Dr. Bawumia is selectively presenting data to paint a rosier picture than reality,” said NDC spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu. “The truth is that many Ghanaians are still struggling with high living costs, unemployment, and inadequate social services.”

Economists and analysts have also weighed in on the debate, offering a more nuanced perspective. While some acknowledge the positive strides made by the NPP in certain areas, they caution that Ghana’s economic challenges are multifaceted and ongoing. “It’s important to recognize the achievements while also addressing the areas where improvements are still needed,” said Dr. Grace Mensah, an economic analyst.

As the political discourse intensifies, the public remains attentive to the differing narratives presented by the two major parties. With the next general elections on the horizon, economic performance and management are poised to be central themes in the campaigns.

The debate over which administration has better managed Ghana’s economy continues to be a polarizing topic, reflecting broader issues of governance, accountability, and the future direction of the country. As Ghanaians evaluate the claims of their leaders, they are looking for concrete results that improve their daily lives and provide a sustainable path to prosperity.
