NPP General Secretary Issues Directive to Halt Comments on Wontumi’s Alleged Remarks Against Asantehene

In a bid to contain the fallout from the alleged controversial remarks made by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) regional chairman for Ashanti, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, commonly known as Chairman Wontumi, the General Secretary of the party has issued a directive urging members to refrain from commenting further on the matter.

The alleged comments against Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II were reportedly made during the party’s parliamentary vetting process in Kumasi, stirring controversy and drawing widespread attention.

The General Secretary, in a statement, stressed the importance of maintaining party discipline and avoiding public discussions that could exacerbate the situation. The directive particularly emphasized party members in the Ashanti region, where the incident occurred, to exercise restraint and allow internal mechanisms to address the matter.

“We urge all members, especially those in the Ashanti Region, to desist from making any further comments on this issue. Let the party’s internal processes handle the situation appropriately,” the statement read.

The directive comes as the NPP faces scrutiny over the alleged remarks, with concerns raised about the potential impact on the party’s image. Party officials have not confirmed the specific nature of Wontumi’s comments, but the General Secretary’s directive indicates a concerted effort to manage the fallout and address the matter internally.

As the party works to handle the situation internally, the controversy surrounding Chairman Wontumi’s alleged remarks serves as a reminder of the delicate balance parties often navigate when dealing with internal issues that have the potential to impact their public perception.
